I rewatched this Kong on DVD back in early 2006 and was taken by how much I enjoyed the film; and was impressed in particular with Lorenzo Semple Jr.'s sublime script and its witty dialogue. Unfortunately the Kong/Skull Island renderings let the scriptwriter down. As a friend said, "the stuff without Kong is good". (All in all, I much prefer this version of the big ape over Peter Jackson's abortion.)

Haha- totally forgot that the 1976 King Kong was a Christmas movie... and so was Peter Jackson's.
With a friend, I trotted off to see King Kong on Saturday, December 18th, 1976. We were impressed with Jessica Lange.
... and in late December, 2005, some big ape knocked over my Christmas tree....
Funny how a poster for a remake calls it an "original". I guess J.J. Abrams was conceived that night.
I'm guessing Abrams would have been ten years old when the "original" King Kong came out. I wonder what he thought.
That John Berkey poster is great; a classic. Actually, Paramount was fined for that effort: Something about misrepresentation....
