MY FAMILY

In my opinion, Norman Lear's sitcom All in the Family (1971 - 1979) is one of the greatest television series ever made -- if not the very best. (I don't like sitcoms, generally.)

I absolutely agree. Things were said on this show in the early 70s that we are afraid to this day of saying in a sitcom.

And credit must also go to the two leads for outstanding acting. To turn what could have simply been a racist buffoon and a spinny housewife into deeply sympathetic chracters is nothing short of brilliance. Not enough praise can be heaped upon Carol O'Connor or Jean Stapleton.

Any aspiring sitcom writers should view this as the gold standard.
